The Math Learning Center - FREE Apps!!

I truly enjoy finding quality apps that support my style of teaching through investigative activities that support hands-on learning. Building strong foundations in number sense, number recognition and computations is essential. Some of my favorite activies include using five-, ten-, and twenty-frames with two color counters or any other fun tokens.

The 10s Frame app by Rubber Chicken Apps http://rubberchickenapps.com/2011/12/07/10s-frame/ is an easy-to-use app for all ages. It's simple, colorful and gets the job done.

The Math Learning Center also has a number of free apps, of which a new favorite of mine is the Number Frames app http://catalog.mathlearningcenter.org/apps . Similar to the 10s Frame app, Number Frames also allows students to structure numbers to five, ten, and twenty. But Number Frames includes a one hundred grid, drawing tools, and a key pad for creating expressions and equations. How cool! Number Frames is also FREE, which is another bonus for any classroom.

If you don't have an iPad to explore Number Frames, check out there free web version at http://www.mathlearningcenter.org/web-apps/number-frames/
