I have received requests to share resources for teaching middle and high school algebra concepts through technology rich activities. I have a long list of resources I would suggest, but this post will include my top picks, in no particular order.

Hands-On Equations

Enables students to develop strong foundation in solving equations and verbal problems. This tool can help students transition into the abstract nature of algebra.

Texas Instruments Activities for TI-Nspire App

Open http://education.ti.com/en/us/activity in Safari on your iPad and download a number of interactive activities into the TI-Nspire or TI-NSpire CAS app.

Algebra Tiles by Brainingcamp.com

Add, subtract, multiply, divide, factor, and simplify equations with a whiteboard tool used for annotating. http://brainingcamp.com/product/mobile.html

Looking for non-iPad resources?

If your teachers like to use manipulatives to teach algebra concepts, consider using the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives. The website is easy to navigate by grade band and content standards as titled by NCTM. Java is needed to use the virtual manipulatives. http://nlvm.usu.edu/en/nav/vlibrary.html

NCTM’s Illuminations website is excellent for looking for classroom ready lessons or interactive actives by grade band and content standard. Open Illuminations on your iPad and then download the PDF files to your device, or have students open the PDFs in Notability to annotate directly on the worksheets. They can save their work to Dropbox, GoogleDrive, or similar cloudbased storage and create electronic portfolios of their work over time. http://illuminations.nctm.org
