Born and raised in Kansas, I studied Mathematics Education and Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Kansas where I earned my B.S.Ed and M.S.Ed. During my time as a Jayhawk, I taught Intermediate and College Algebra, which helped verify my passion for teaching and learning.
After graduation I became a high school mathematics teacher at a brand new school enriched with new technologies for 2003. Mimio smartboards and document cameras were staples in every classroom and we began to implement 1:1 mobile technologies with Palm PilotTXs and portable keyboards. It was during my first three years of teaching I realized the ease of developing technology rich activities that my colleagues would awe and ooo about.
I decided to leave K-12 education to pursue a doctorate in K-20 Mathematics Education and Instructional Technologies through Kansas State University. This experience challenged me, as I was asked to teach Elementary Mathematics Methods courses, a field slightly outside of my discipline, but this is where mathematics education became whole for me. Following graduation I became a Mathematics and Mathematics Education professor in Texas and then Illinois. I excelled at public speaking through conferences and providing professional development workshops. Further, I wrote a book about how to use the Nintendo Wii to teach mathematics and science in middle school grades, and then another book regarding fraction concepts using a popular mathematics manipulative.
Today I serve as a Curriculum Development Specialist and Educational Consultant. I truly enjoy presenting at conferences, networking with educators, and striving to make classroom experiences enjoyable to all students.
