It's about that time to wrap up my time in Belize and start exploring other countries. Originally, I scheduled 3 months to be in Belize and by the time I leave, it'll have been 19 months! The extended stay was due to the pandemic which allowed me to enjoy much more than what I could have covered in just a few months. So here's my summary of the top 10 places to eat, play, and stay based on my time in Belize.
Top 10 Eateries in Placencia, Belize
Barefoot Beach Bar: enjoy cocktails by the beach, lunch and dinner. Say hi to bartender Mayro from me!!
Cha Chi's: daily lunch and dinner specials are delicious, or grab a slice of pizza.
Dawn's Grill: open for dinner and one of my favorite spots for grilled lobster dinner.
De Tach Restaurant & Beach Bar: excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner specials.
Doyle's Smoke Yaad: lip smackin' BBQ. Some of the best lobster, smoked turkey, ribs, and chicken.
Placencia Yacht Club: this is THE spot to watch the sunset while having delicious crostini's, pasta, wine and cocktails. You need a boat to get there but don't worry, Caroline will help you arrange the quick water transfer across from a local captain.
Rick's Cafe: your hot spot for lunch, dinner and cocktails. Definitely try the lobster chowder when it's lobster season.
Ruth's Kitchen: this is a small green building located across from Wallen's hardware. It's a great morning spot to swing by and pick up a breakfast burrito.
The Shack: down by the pier, this spot is perfect for breakfast, lunch and early dinner. While you eat and drink, watch kids play in the water and enjoy the beach.
Wendy's Creole Restaurant: on the main road before the pier, this spot is ideal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Try the stuffed fry jacks.
Top 10 Tours & Places to Play
Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM Cave): absolutely the best tour I've had to date. Walk a flat trail to the opening of the cave and then swim through the entrance and hike through this enormous, untouched cave. View human remains and learn about the Mayan culture and sacrifices. A day you will never forget!
Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary: hiking, rock water slides, river tubing, jaguars and more. Give Doyle a shout at DTourz for the best experience and delicious lunch.
Inky's Mini Golf: the name says it all. Enjoy a little mini golf with a cold Belikin.
Jaguar Lanes: bowling, billiards, foosball, pizza and wings.
Placencia Beach Club: cool off in the pool or sea with a cold cocktail from the pool bar. Ask Shane or Heather about the daily specials.
Nautical Adventures: want a day on a catamaran and be absolutely spoiled by the crew? Contact Garrick and Lee to set up your day trip and have the best time with Captain Jimmy & Mike.
Reel Life Tours: Message my buddy Nick for a fun day out on the water. Go fishing, snorkeling and diving around some of the breathtaking islands like Silk Caye, Ranguana Caya, Moho Caye, and more.
The Brew Barge: enjoy a cold Hobbs beer at their new brew barge. Enjoy watching sports on their big screen tv's or play some horseshoes out on the field.
The Little Wine & Bar: watch the sunset from the second story patio with a glass of wine and charcuterie plate. Although this is food and drink, Jana (the owner) has made a fun spot to hang and enjoy the company of others. It's a place everyone has to experience!
Xunantunich Archaeological Reserve: take a hand cracked barge across water, then hike up a hill to the ruins and learn about the Maiden of the Rock.
Top 10 Places to Stay in Placencia, Belize
Capp's Inn: this is where I stayed for the first 6 months in Belize. Behind their 3 bedroom octagon house is a private small studio casita with a gorgeous wrap around patio. Since it's across the lagoon, you paddle a small boat across to enjoy your little piece of Belize heaven.
Caribbean Beach Cabanas: is a cool boutique hotel with pool right on the beach and off the infamous sidewalk. It's a short walk to the Placencia Beach Club too.
Cashew Cabins: right in the heart of the village are these adorable rooms, with a pool just steps from your door.
Dolce Cabanas: waterfront suites right on the lagoon. A peaceful stay with kayaks and a pool. Enjoy your time in Placencia so much, just let Nicole know and she can help you find a long term rental in the village.
Itz'ana Belize Resort & Residences: north of the airport you'll find this beautiful resort with a huge pool and stone pizza oven poolside.
Mariposa Beach Suites: just north of the village, Mariposa has hotel style rooms and treehouses! I loved hanging at their pool right on the beach and eating lunch or dinner.
Naia Resort & Spa: the spa services are amazing! Make sure you have time to enjoy the private pool before or after a massage or pedicure.
Ocean Breeze: a beautiful beach resort right on the ocean with a perfect view of the sunrise. Don't forget to have a Placencia Sunset beverage from their bar, Toucan Jacks Tiki Bar.
Ray Caye Island Resort: this is where you go to treat yourself! Stay on a private island resort, and indulge in wonderful cocktails, meals and desserts. Zoom down the waterslide or jump from the platform, watch tarpon and rays swim by the docks at night, kayak around the island, try SUP for the first time, or ask Jeffrey to take you out on the Hobbie Cat. Oh, don't forget to the snorkel off the backside of the island by the slide.
Sirenian Bay Resort & Villas: I love their pool and their accommodations are amazing. This resort is across from Inky's Mini Golf (same owners).
